India’s Next-Generation Leaders to Showcase Innovative AI and Climate Solutions at 1M1B Activate Impact Summit

New Delhi, December 4, 2024 – The 8th annual 1M1B Activate Impact Summit will take place on 12th December 2024 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York with youth-led initiatives that address urgent global challenges. Organized by the UN-accredited organization 1M1B or One Billion for One Billion with the support of the United Nations DGC Civil Society Unit, this event aims to recognize and amplify innovative solutions from India contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This year, the summit focuses on how AI and climate solutions can take the lead towards global sustainability goals. It particularly focuses on India’s youth with 25 changemakers who present projects which work on issues ranging from clean water to quality education, health, and inequality issues in society. It is a platform for youth leaders all around the world who show how local innovation ignites global impact.

Since its inception in 2014, the 1M1B Activate Impact Summit has established itself as a recognized gathering bringing together more than 400 participants in this year’s summit. They will include government representatives, corporate executives, youth leaders, and innovators from all over the world. The summit also celebrates 10 years of 1M1B, thereby making it a landmark moment to underline the role of the organization in helping young people take control of their future and meaningfully contribute to change globally.

Telangana Dominates the Indian Presence at the Summit
The State Government of Telangana would be sending a delegation of youth leaders to this summit. This makes Telangana the first state in India which is officially partnering with 1M1B for youth innovation on a global scale. The changemakers are from Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Mumbai, thus making it a delegation which reflects a diversified talent and innovation coming out of India.

Telangana will nominate selected youth leaders who pitch projects that reflect a tremendous effort towards fighting climate challenges as well as accelerating India’s Net Zero goals. The forum will focus on key themes such as technology for social impact, sustainability and green skills, and include how young people use innovation to build sustainability.

Changemaker Projects to watch:

Topics of discussion for the summit range from transformational projects under young leaders to endering urgent global problems. Among the most significant projects featured this year, include:

Fateh Bachher’s Eco-Clean Ecologically removes contaminants from water, including removing water deficit from urban settings, mainly through clean water and hygiene sanitation, making it fit for SDG 6 by the United Nations.

INTech by Siddhanth Gubbi and Suhani Prakash – This project promotes new technology to reduce social and economic inequality. They support SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities.

Naatya Shiksha by Mridula Sriram is a project that seeks to bring the classical art form of Bharatanatyam to the communities while providing participants with income opportunities, building confidence, and a sense of community, thereby contributing to SDGs 4 and 10 for Quality Education and Reduced Inequalities.

EduTech by Siddharth Mannepalli – An effort toward increasing access to education using technology among underprivileged communities to improve SDG 4, Quality Education.

Vibhaag Foundation by Ashmit Tainwala: This is the health initiative towards community welfare and works towards SDG 3, Good Health, and Well-being.

These projects reflect the rise of impact coming from youth-led solutions for global challenges, special areas related to sustainability, inequality, and education.

1M1B Role for Empowering the Young Leaders

1M1B is an acronym that stands for One Billion for One Billion, a non-profit organization that aims at energizing young people to transform lives in a billion ways. Since 2014 to date, 1M1B has trained youths on the most needed competencies like AI, digital technologies, problem-solving abilities, and collaboration skills. Through the activation framework-4.3.2.1 of the organization, young people are empowered with competencies needed to lead change that impacts the world at all times.
To date, 1M1B has impacted over 500,000 young individuals across India, trained 400,000 teachers, and created 6,000 job opportunities. The organization’s programs focus on fostering human-centered leadership and innovation, with an emphasis on AI for social good, sustainability, and digital citizenship.

Global Partnership for Social Development

The 1M1B Activate Impact Summit serves as a platform for the display of youth initiatives but also as an avenue for dialogue and cooperation. Global leaders, corporate executives, UN officials, and youth from all corners of the globe converge here to focus on discussing ways and means of accelerating the community’s drive toward attaining the SDGs.
