Abu Dhabi Launches MARSDNA To Advance Maritime ESG

The Emirate has launched MARSDNA, an innovative tool for developing ESG objectives within the maritime sector. It has been developed by Maqta Technologies Group in association with Abu Dhabi Maritime, the latter being a cutting-edge, user-friendly digital platform designed to help organisations measure and develop their ESG performance. Since it is free, access to the MARSDNA service comes in the form of customized reports and tailored recommendations to demystify the sustainability strategy development process for stakeholders of the maritime industry.

MARSDNA consolidates sustainability standards across the globe-United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), and metrics from the International Maritime Organization-to provide organizations with a comprehensive framework by which to evaluate ESG. Using the Abu Dhabi Mobility and the Abu Dhabi Maritime websites, organizations can access this tool, where a simple questionnaire could generate actionable insights for developing better ESG practices.

The initiative represents Abu Dhabi’s commitment to driving sustainable innovation in the maritime industry and supporting diverse stakeholders, from small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to larger entities. SMEs, which often lack the resources to develop ESG strategies, stand to benefit significantly from MARSDNA’s accessibility and guidance. Larger organisations can also leverage the tool to optimise their existing sustainability frameworks. First off, MARSDNA is to focus on five key segments of the maritime value chain. It aims to broaden its scope for more comprehensive expansion so that the benefit of MARSDNA could reach many more.

Captain Saif Al Mheiri, CEO of Abu Dhabi Maritime and Chief Sustainability Officer at AD Ports Group, said, “We are proud to launch MARSDNA, a game-changing tool that has the potential to transform ESG initiatives within our sector.”. By giving local organisations the resources and strategic framework they need to make meaningful gains in sustainability, we will be able to lift up the whole of our maritime community, foster innovation, and set a global standard for progress, he said.

Dr. Noura Al Dhaheri, CEO of Maqta Technologies Group, highlighted the role of digitalisation in advancing sustainable development. She said, “MARSDNA is a testament to AD Ports Group’s commitment to promoting sustainable development through high-class digital solutions. Digitalisation is a powerful driver for collective progress, enabling users to conceptualize and achieve environmental goals.”

The launch of MARSDNA aligns with Abu Dhabi’s broader vision of establishing itself as a global leader in maritime sustainability. By providing free, tailored ESG guidance, the tool strengthens sustainability practices and promotes innovation across the sector. This initiative underscores the emirate’s leadership in environmental stewardship and its efforts to set a global benchmark for sustainable maritime practices.

The announcement also complements Abu Dhabi’s recent launch of an International Carbon Measurement, Reporting, and Verification Programme, further cementing its position as a forward-thinking advocate for global environmental progress. As MARSDNA begins its journey, it promises to empower maritime stakeholders to achieve significant strides in ESG performance, reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s role in driving sustainability and fostering collective growth within the global maritime community.
