AM Green Powers Ahead: Secures EU Stamp for Massive Green Ammonia Project in India

The pre-certification of AM Green’s green ammonia project in Kakinada, India, under the EU Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) Voluntary Scheme is a major milestone for the energy industry leader in India. This accomplishment highlights India’s expanding influence in the world’s renewable energy markets and demonstrates AM Green’s dedication to upholding strict international standards.

Pre-certification is a critical step toward commercializing one of the largest green ammonia factories in the world for AM Green. It was granted by CertifHy in association with Hinicio, a renewable hydrogen consulting firm, and Bureau Veritas. The project intends to increase its production capacity to five million tons of green ammonia annually by 2030, which is equal to one million tons of hydrogen annually. With this audacious scope, AM Green is positioned as a leader in supplying affordable green compounds and their derivatives to a range of industries, such as fertilizers, shipping, power generation, and refineries.

Of particular note is the EU RFNBO accreditation, which certifies that AM Green’s green hydrogen is continuously produced using carbon-free energy sources in compliance with Europe’s strict legal requirements for decarbonizing the transportation and industrial sectors. This certification boosts AM Green’s competitiveness in entering the competitive EU market while also guaranteeing compliance with EU rules.

The founder and group president of AM Green, Mahesh Kolli, underlined the importance of this achievement and highlighted AM Green’s dedication to providing carbon-free energy solutions that fulfill the strictest requirements imposed by EU RFNBO criteria. The certification is anticipated to boost India’s position in the production of renewable ammonia and ease AM Green’s entry into foreign markets as a dependable provider of clean energy solutions.

The collaboration between Hinicio and Bureau Veritas was essential to obtaining pre-certification. Using its knowledge of both the Indian setting and the international markets for renewable energy, Hinicio offered compliance reviews and strategic advice. As a reliable certifying authority, Bureau Veritas carried out thorough evaluations of plant operations to guarantee compliance with EU RFNBO regulations.

The CEO of Hinicio, Patrick Maio, stressed the value of pre-certification in ensuring project compliance and facilitating offtake discussions. He said that Hinicio was in a unique position to counsel AM Green on project design, entry into the European market, and long-term regulatory compliance because of their extensive worldwide expertise and in-depth understanding of the Indian business.

The accomplishment of AM Green was praised by Matthieu Boisson, Managing Director of CertifHy, who also emphasized the project’s potential to expand the global market for sustainable energy solutions. Boisson acknowledged AM Green’s dedication to producing ammonia from renewable sources. With the greatest caliber of knowledge and support in hydrogen and e-fuel certification, CertifHy hopes to establish itself as a global market tool.

Developers of renewable energy projects are increasingly pursuing pre-certification due to its ability to spot possible project faults early in the design phase, saving time and money. Furthermore, it plays a pivotal role in expediting Final Investment Decisions (FID) and augmenting credibility in offtake discussions.

In the future, AM Green intends to broaden its reach outside of India through partnerships like the electrolyzer production project in Belgium with John Cockerill. AM Green’s goal to promote decarbonization through biofuels, e-fuels, sustainable aviation fuels, and vital chemicals is projected to be further supported by this initiative, which is expected to strengthen the company’s strengths in global renewables and storage.

In conclusion, AM Green’s attainment of EU RFNBO pre-certification is a noteworthy milestone for the renewable energy industry in India as well as for the company. It presents India as a major player in the world’s clean energy markets and establishes AM Green as a pioneer in providing reasonably priced green ammonia and hydrogen solutions around the globe. This accreditation clears the path for a sustainable energy future by demonstrating AM Green’s dedication to sustainability and its readiness to fulfill the demanding criteria of global markets.
