Apave Acquires Carbon Accounting Firm Aktio For Growth

Global risk management service provider Apave Group has today announced the acquisition of French carbon accounting company Aktio. This strategic acquisition is designed to strengthen Apave's sustainability and decarbonization capability, solidifying its role as a champion to help businesses successfully transition to the low-carbon economy.

Established in 2020 with headquarters in Paris, Aktio has quickly earned a reputation as a specialist in climate advisory and greenhouse gas management. The company provides software products that allow businesses to calculate their carbon footprint, establish climate targets, and make effective decarbonization strategies. Aktio also assists companies with compliance on developing regulatory landscapes like the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and conducts training to equip the teams with requisite knowledge to negotiate the low-carbon transition.

Ever since its inception, Aktio has grown considerably and is now a group of about 40 specialists, including web developers and climate consultants. The company has helped around 500 organizations in finding solutions to their decarbonization issues, making it a leader in the space of carbon accounting.

Aktio's co-founders, Laurent Barbezieux, Alex Huyn, and Thibault Faninger, highlighted the need to speed up the low-carbon transition in response to the growing threats of climate change. They were confident that becoming part of Apave Group would give a big push to their mission and enable them to amplify their impact by training and equipping the next generation of carbon accountants.

The purchase is in line with Apave's wider 'Green & Social' service packages, which are intended to help clients reach their sustainability goals. These services include energy transition, climate transition, and social and societal transformation. As part of the integration process, Apave will create a new company, Aktio-Apave, which will combine Aktio's experts with the specialists from Apave's Climate and Sustainability division. This merger aims to create a full service hub for businesses seeking guidance on their environmental performance and carbon management strategies.

Philippe Maillard, the CEO of Apave Group, underscored the strategic significance of this acquisition in furthering the company's sustainability ambitions. He reaffirmed Apave's role as a trusted partner for organizations that seek to enhance their environmental and social performance. Through this acquisition, Apave seeks to strengthen its capacity to serve clients in all sustainability challenges, from technical to human, environmental, digital, and climate-related matters.

By adding Aktio's knowledge to its offerings, Apave is taking a leadership position in the sustainability industry. The deal is an indication of the increasing need for accurate carbon accounting solutions as companies globally are under pressure to cut emissions and meet global climate goals. The new Aktio-Apave organization will be instrumental in helping to overcome these challenges, equipping clients with the expertise and resources needed to navigate the changing regulatory environment and make meaningful strides in their decarbonization journey.

This purchase represents a major leap for Apave in terms of developing its sustainability services. It also confirms the company's commitment to making the world safer and more sustainable, in alignment with its corporate purpose. As global climate worries increase, partnerships such as this will be key in driving meaningful change and enabling businesses to develop the tools they need to shift toward a low-carbon future.
