Burjeel Holdings Launches ‘Better By Nature’ Initiative to Advance ESG Goals

Abu Dhabi, UAE: In a remarkable step towards achieving its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals, Burjeel Holdings, one of the leading super-specialty healthcare providers in the MENA region, announced the launch of the ‘Better By Nature’ initiative. This innovative program combines environmental conservation with employee engagement, emphasizing the company’s commitment to sustainability and carbon neutrality by 2040.

This main ‘Better By Nature’ theme consists of the organization making the pledge to plant one tree per employee on each of his birthdays, creating almost 13,000 extra trees every year and so helping to increase green coverage within the region. An initiative that celebrates its people by raising environmental consciousness is certainly contributing to UAE’s more general sustainability agenda.

The program’s inaugural event was held at Jubail Mangrove Park in Abu Dhabi, where Burjeel Holdings’ employees planted mangroves, aligning with the UAE’s goal of planting 100 million mangroves by 2030. Mangroves are vital to combating climate change, as they act as natural carbon sinks, protect shorelines from erosion, and support diverse ecosystems.

It was launched by senior leaders of Burjeel Holdings including Chief Operating Officer Safeer Ahamed and Chief Financial Officer Muhammed Shihabuddin. This also further cements the commitment of the leadership towards integration of environment-friendly practices across the organization.

National and International Sustainability Standards Compliance

The ‘Better By Nature’ initiative supports directly the ambitious sustainability agenda of the UAE, for example, planting 100 million mangroves supporting the broader climate action strategy of the nation. Being an active participant in these initiatives reflects the commitment by corporations but also the role that the company can play in enhancing biodiversity and combating climate change.

Sustainability is much more than a commitment-it is a shared responsibility and an integral part of our vision for a healthier future,” said John Sunil, Group CEO of Burjeel Holdings.Meaningful action against climate change, preserving natural ecosystems, and engaging our employees in making a positive impact on the environment through initiatives like ‘Better By Nature’. This is just the beginning of our carbon-neutral journey and in-line with the aggressive sustainability objectives of the UAE.

This initiative falls within the comprehensive ESG strategy of Burjeel Holdings, namely focusing on Healthy Environment, Healthy Community, Healthy Governance, and Healthy System. By engaging employees in ecological activities, the company will ensure that sustainability is part of its operations and generate measurable environmental impacts.

The ‘Better By Nature’ program also becomes the embodiment of the corporate belief: in that, by planting mangroves, employees are literally contributing directly to the cause of action for climate.Hence, the belief in making collective contributions toward leading the path to environmental change.

Unity in Nature Celebration

A whole host of activities were provided at the launch event in a way that brought together both the concerns for environmental well-being and personal health. The employees engaged themselves in kayaking and yoga, which is a kind of unity of physical well-being and environmental protection. All these activities encouraged the workers to be in unison with each other while trying to bring together personal well-being and planetary well-being.

Mangroves: Nature’s Guardians

As nature’s guardians, mangroves have an important role to play in environmental preservation. They do not only hold carbon more effectively than most terrestrial forests but also have vital marine habitats, better protect coastlines, and improve water quality. Such a focus on mangroves on the part of Burjeel Holdings portrays an understanding of this system’s ecological importance.

Glimpse of Future

As Burjeel Holdings takes its ‘Better By Nature’ initiative forward, it continues to set a precedence in the healthcare industry towards integrating sustainability with core business practice. An interesting step taken by the organization here is involving employees in important environmental activities so that one develops an environment of accountability and collective action.

Some long-term impacts expected as a result of ‘Better By Nature’ include contributory addition to the regional green cover, enhanced urban biodiversity, and an upliftment in the consciousness toward combatting climate change in one and all.

Moving forward with the ESG strategy and furthering the initiative ‘Better By Nature,’ Burjeel Holdings is indeed in sync with global intent to fight climate change for years to come.
