Carbmee Secures €20 Million To Expand Carbon Platform

Berlin-based startup carbmee announced the completion of a €20 million (USD $21 million) funding round. Money is being secured to expand the carbon management platform and develop its software and service lines. Started in 2021, carbmee specializes in AI-powered solutions designed to help organisations manage, reduce and report carbon emissions—the ability that becomes evermore critical to meet the needs of an evolving regulatory environment.

Newly secured funds will be put toward the further development of carbmee’s lead Environmental Intelligence System (EIS) platform. The company emphasizes the technology’s capability to track detailed records of corporate activities, an aspect used to make LCAs mandated under EU carbon regulations, so this is what sets it up well to provide for an emerging need-the ability to achieve more precise, more streamlined carbon footprinting and its reductions within increasingly complex supply chains.

Carbmee’s innovations have already gained a spectrum of distinguished international clients, such as Lufthansa Technik, Maersk, Kärcher, Hilti, Miele, Coca-Cola, Schaeffler, and Anglo American. The tools the company aims at are directed to the needs of manufacturing and industrial enterprises whose supply chains comprise more than 80% of carbon emissions.

In his words, Christian Heinrich, CEO and co-founder of carbmee described the round as at once a validation of the company’s achievements to date and a springboard for future growth. “It’s a clear confirmation that we made the right decisions already four years ago anticipating the importance of scope 3 emissions in manufacturing industries,” Heinrich said. “With more than 80% of emissions stemming from the supply chain, we built a platform that meets not only the evolving needs of complex industry enterprises but also plays a critical role in the global shift toward sustainability.”

Co-founder Robin Spickers elaborated on the problem of manufacturing and inefficiencies arising from fragmentation in data management. “Currently, teams in large organizations work in data silos—procurement, R&D, finance, production—and rely on manual Excel spreadsheets to calculate carbon footprints, causing data inaccuracy and ineffective processes,” he said. Carbmee’s platform aims to unite these disjointed processes and provide a holistic and accurate view of their carbon emissions along with actionable insights to help businesses make reductions.

The funding round was led by CommerzVentures, a prominent climate fintech investor, with participation from Fly Ventures and several angel investors. “We are impressed by carbmee’s approach to solving one of the most critical challenges in industrial decarbonization,” said Paul Morgenthaler, Managing Partner at CommerzVentures. The carbmee team is at the forefront of a vital industrial step-change as businesses around the world demand the knowledge and support to manage their carbon emissions,” said Morgenthaler. “Their powerful software breaks down the complexity of decarbonizing global supply chains, solving a key problem for industries. We share in the team’s exceptional ambition for the future and look forward to helping them deliver on this journey.

As global attention continues to focus on sustainability and climate change, carbmee’s innovative platform is poised to play a key role in helping industries transition to a low-carbon future. In this regard, carbmee is not only addressing the complexities of scope 3 emissions—those generated across a company’s entire supply chain—but also providing a solution to meet regulatory requirements and empowering organizations to achieve their broader sustainability goals.

That translates to the company’s growing requirement for advanced tools that will tackle the environmental challenges of industries during their modernization. With carbmee, featuring its AI-driven platform, this rapidly increasing portfolio of global clients is well-positioned at the forefront of carbon management technology. The €20 million fundraise is a significant development in its journey and gives due importance to innovative solutions in the fight against climate change.
