CSLC Science Museum Wins HP Environment Award
CSLC Science Museum in Shoghi wins Himachal Environment Award for promoting science, sustainability, and education.

In a moment of great pride for Himachal Pradesh and Shoolini University, the Centre for Science Learning and Creativity (CSLC) Science Museum, located in the scenic hills of Shoghi near Shimla, has been awarded the First Prize in the prestigious Himachal Pradesh Environment Leadership Award 2023–24. The honour was bestowed by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, during the World Environment Day celebrations.
The award recognizes CSLC’s outstanding contributions to environmental sustainability, science education, and the promotion of empirical, hands-on learning among the youth. Instituted by the state government, the Himachal Pradesh Environment Leadership Awards honour individuals and institutions that exhibit excellence and innovation in sustainable development practices. The CSLC Science Museum, jointly established by the Himachal Pradesh Council for Science, Technology and Environment (HIMCOSTE) and Shoolini University, has emerged as a beacon of scientific exploration and green education in the state.
Present at the award ceremony were several key dignitaries, including Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena and Deputy Speaker Keval Singh Pathania. While presenting the award, Chief Minister Sukhu lauded the CSLC Museum as a transformative institution that sparks scientific curiosity and cultivates a rational, analytical mindset among children and educators. “The CSLC Museum has immense potential to ignite an interest in science and mathematics. It is not just a building, but a movement toward a more informed, inquisitive, and environmentally conscious society,” said CM Sukhu during the event.
The CSLC Museum, the first state-level science museum in Himachal Pradesh, was envisioned as a platform that bridges theoretical knowledge and real-world experience. Its rapid rise as one of the most engaging educational tourist destinations in the region is a testament to its innovative programming and commitment to the state’s educational and ecological development. The museum features interactive exhibits, a Hall of Fame dedicated to Indian scientists, a library, and even a content creation studio. It hosts a wide range of workshops and certificate programs that focus on eco-tourism, nature conservation, wild beekeeping, and more—initiatives that align closely with the objectives of the National Education Policy and promote both education and local economic growth.
The recognition has been widely celebrated by Shoolini University’s leadership. Prof. P.K. Khosla, Chancellor of the university, emphasized that the award is a validation of the team’s commitment to sustainable education and innovative learning. “This is a recognition of our field-level innovation, our green initiatives, and the vibrant ecosystem we’ve built at CSLC. It’s a proud moment for all of us—a milestone in Shoolini’s journey,” he said.
Echoing this sentiment, Prof. Atul Khosla, Vice Chancellor of Shoolini University, noted that the CSLC Museum has become a hub for scientific inquiry and sustainable practices. “This recognition reflects our vision of blending scientific learning with sustainability. The CSLC Museum is not just a place of education—it is a source of inspiration for young minds across Himachal and beyond. I congratulate the entire CSLC team on this remarkable achievement. It truly is a proud moment for the Shoolini family,” he said.
The university’s Pro Chancellor, Vishal Anand, described the award as a significant validation of what can be achieved when scientific pursuit is powered by a deep commitment to sustainability and passion. “This milestone shows what becomes possible when science, sustainability, and passion intersect. The award is more than just recognition—it is a validation of the impact we aim to make,” he said.
Ms. Avnee Khosla, Vice President and Director – Admissions at Shoolini University, shared that the CSLC journey exemplifies what visionary leadership and community support can accomplish. “The CSLC story is a shining example of transformation through teamwork, purpose, and dedication. This award belongs to everyone who believes in the transformative power of science,” she said.
Dr. Ravikant Thakur, Director of CSLC, expressed heartfelt gratitude on receiving the award and acknowledged the contributions of the entire CSLC team. “This award is a powerful acknowledgment of the tireless efforts put in by our team to promote scientific curiosity, environmental awareness, and hands-on learning. It strengthens our resolve to keep creating impactful educational experiences that empower students—especially those from rural areas—to think critically and act responsibly,” he said.
He also highlighted the vital role of collaborative leadership, particularly under the guidance of Brig. S.D. Mehta, and the active involvement of Shoolini University’s academic and outreach departments in shaping CSLC into a model institution that reflects the best of science, sustainability, and social responsibility.
As Himachal Pradesh looks to position itself as a hub for green innovation and scientific education, the recognition of the CSLC Science Museum with the Himachal Pradesh Environment Leadership Award is a significant milestone. It stands as a symbol of how education, sustainability, and community engagement can come together to create lasting impact.
