Dense Fog Brings Delhi To A Standstill: Flights And Trains Disrupted

Delhi woke up on Friday morning under a dense fog that brought havoc into the city in air and rail services. There was a delayed departure for over 100 flights in New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, while at least 26 trains were reporting overdue due to the poor visibility.

When visibility was brought near zero at many places, it prompted Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) to issue passengers an advisory to reconfirm their flight status with airlines. There were some CAT III-equipped aircraft whose operations allow for visibility-limited approach and takeoffs.

IndiGo Airlines informed through a tweet alerting its passengers to check the status of their flights before getting to the airport. IndiGo requested its passengers to provide additional time while waking up to the news of the traffic holdups that were as a result of early fog.

The fog held not only air but also trains captive; at least 26 trains were running late owing to fog in parts of Delhi and other places in North India.

This is the second instance of severe fog in Delhi this January, and much like the last event, it extended from January 2 to 3 when visibility remained nearly zero for nine consecutive hours.
