Go Dharmic’s Dharma Forest Initiative Wins Climate Action Championship Award for Mangrove Restoration Efforts

The Go Dharmic Dharma Forest Initiative has received the Climate Action Championship Award, the most prestigious award bestowed on an initiative that would help combat climate change and restore the Sundarbans mangrove forests. This award was given at a special event held by the British Deputy High Commission in Kolkata, with the who’s who of the dignitaries attending, such as Kevin Goh, Deputy Consul of the Australian High Commission, and Andrew Fleming, Deputy High Commissioner of the British High Commission.

The Dharma Forest Initiative is an initiative that was established to restore mangrove ecosystems in the Sundarbans. It achieved a rating of 90 out of 100 in the assessment process. The initiative targets the increasing impact of climate change in one of the world’s most vulnerable ecosystems. The Sundarbans, the world’s largest mangrove forest and habitat of the Bengal Tiger, are a highly significant natural barrier against cyclones and floods in West Bengal’s coastal regions. The region has been adversely affected by floods and cyclones in the past, with over 1,000 people having lost their lives during the years 2013 through 2017.

Since its inception, the Dharma Forest Initiative has planted 250,000 mangrove trees and targets 2 million trees by 2026. It is reforestation work to protect coastal communities, enhance biodiversity, and restore the natural resilience of the ecosystem. The initiative is driven by local communities with the goal of mitigating the impact of future climate-related disasters while supporting both human and wildlife populations.

The award underscores the commitment of Go Dharmic towards environmental conservation and reaffirms the importance of grassroots efforts in tackling global environmental challenges. By planting mangroves, the initiative restores biodiversity and offers a natural shield against rising sea levels and floods. This program aligns with global efforts to combat climate change and demonstrates the power of collaborative environmental action.

Go Dharmic is an international humanitarian and environmental movement focused on initiatives like conservation of the environment, alleviation of hunger, and education. Inspired by compassion and selfless service, this organization continues to move ahead in creating a harmonious relationship between humanity and nature.
