High School Junior Launches Nationwide Clothing Swap for Sustainable Fashion

Soor Sanghvi, a junior at West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South, is working on the impact that fashion really has on the environment by starting up an organization called Revogue LLC to push the idea of sustainable fashion. With fast fashion on the rise and its rather egregious consequences, he’s organizing a nationwide clothing swap to promote eco-friendlier practices in fashion.

Fast fashion has promoted a surge in textile waste—clothing worn only a few times before its eventual trashing. It was this problem that drove Soor to start up Revogue LLC, an initiative geared at creating a more sustainable fashion industry. His effort underlines the requirement to think over the current pattern of intake and discards related to apparel goods.

The Clothes Swap event is scheduled to take place on September 28, 2024, across 15 states and 3 countries. People would be requested to bring along clothes that they do not want anymore and can exchange them for items that appeal to them. It aims at reducing textile wastes and creating a large-scale movement for sustainable fashion. It also works on building a community bound by the goal of sustainability.

Soor has put in so much effort in preparing for the event by mobilizing his network of volunteers, securing the venues, and partnering with local organizations. Support is very great, and several are already queuing up to be a part of an event which deals with the environmental challenges that the fashion industry gives. This is an event that reveals that clothes are not only swapped but also raises awareness about sustaining fashion.

The event coincides with the launch of an app from Soor, named Revogue, that facilitates clothes swapping on a far bigger scale. With the app, it’s easy to get clothes from those who won’t use them anymore, rather than resorting to fast fashion. By encouraging the reuse of existing clothes instead of buying new, it hopes to reduce the environmental impact from fashion.

With the date of the event drawing closer and closer, so does the anticipation. Soor’s movement is quite a testament to how much young people can do to really make change within fashion but also beyond. This nationwide clothes-swapping event is, hence, a step closer towards making the fashion industry more sustainable, and Soor hopes that it would further encourage more people to adopt green ways.
