Iberdrola buys 80% of a startup that develops decarbonization solutions
Founded in Spain in 2011, Balantia supports companies in the process of defining their decarbonization plan as a response to the new regulations and automating the management of the energy system in order to increase the level of efficiency and the share of renewables.
The Spanish energy giant first invested in Balantia in 2019 through its start-up program, Perseo, which has made the company’s technology available in over 180,000 homes and businesses. This strategic acquisition will result in the launch of the Net Zero Emissions Manager (NZEM) by Iberdrola and Balantia.

The NZEM platform aims to help companies understand and manage the energy and CO2 emissions of their activities. Designed to provide its clients a unique platform enabling businesses to operate without the carbon footprint or penalty. The centralized platform will measure CO2 emissions calculate CO2 footprint, once linked to the power meters will enable the introduction of impactful reduction actions.
It involves the creation of regulatory compliance dashboards that will be live updated while progress would dynamically be assessed, he mentioned, on top of aiming to create equipment inventories, invoices and asset profiles to assist in monitoring, managing and controlling the data. The platform aims to reach a customer base of over 20,000 companies by the end of the year.
