Infosys Founder Warns of India's Population Risks
N.R. Narayana Murthy, co-founder of Infosys, expressed deep concerns about India's growing population and its impact on the nation’s sustainability during his speech at the Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT) in Prayagraj. He highlighted that since the Emergency period in the 1970s, India has neglected population control, which he believes now poses a significant threat to the country's future, particularly in terms of per capita land availability and healthcare infrastructure. Murthy compared India’s situation unfavorably to countries like the U.S., Brazil, and China, which have more land available per person. Murthy also emphasized the critical role of professionals in contributing to national progress. He urged graduates to set high aspirations, dream big, and work hard to achieve those dreams, stressing that a professional's responsibility extends beyond personal success to making meaningful contributions to the nation’s development.
He emphasized the importance of innovation, leadership and empowerment in meeting the challenges posed by India's population growth and other welfare issues. Finally, Murthy urged the younger generation to use their strengths and abilities to drive India's continued growth and success, and asked them to shoulder their responsibilities. and working hard to ensure sustainability and prosperity for the country.
