ITI Installs 5.66 MW of Solar Power Plants to Reduce Carbon Footprint: Report

In its Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report (BRSR) for FY 2023-24, ITI has taken steps to minimise its environmental impact, focusing on sustainable sourcing, energy management, and waste reduction. The report says that the company’s manufacturing units are certified to several international standards, including ISO 14001:2015 for environmental management.

The company has installed solar power plants with a total capacity of 5.66 MW, which helps reduce the company’s carbon footprint. Additionally, ITI is actively engaged in renewable energy projects, having supplied over 73,000 solar panels to various customers, including the Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL) and Patanjali, the report mentioned.

The company’s report also showed the responsibility towards employee welfare and community development. As per the report, the company ensures a safe and inclusive workplace, with policies in place to prevent workplace harassment and ensure gender equality. The company provides benefits such as life insurance and maternity leave to both permanent and temporary employees, demonstrating a strong focus on employee well-being.

In terms of workforce training, ITI collaborates with various educational institutions and has implemented multiple training programs for employees, including those related to health and safety. The company also emphasizes the recruitment and inclusion of differently-abled individuals, aligning with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act.

Waste Management and Environmental Compliance ITI Limited is committed to minimising waste and adopting clean technologies. The company has systems in place to handle waste generated from its manufacturing processes, including recycling and safe disposal of hazardous materials. ITI practices efficient water management and regularly audits its plants for environmental compliance. During FY 2023-24, the company generated 99.968 metric tonnes of waste, with efforts underway to improve waste recovery and recycling practices.

The report also addresses air emissions, revealing a reduction in NOx and SOx levels compared to the previous financial year. ITI continues to assess and mitigate its environmental impact by adopting energy-efficient systems and promoting the use of renewable energy sources.

Despite its successes, ITI acknowledges the challenges of integrating sustainability principles across its widespread operations. The report identifies risks related to water management and emphasizes the need for ongoing employee education on resource conservation. ITI is committed to addressing these challenges by investing in innovative technologies and sustainable practices.

The company also recognizes the importance of social impact, actively engaging with local communities through its CSR activities. These initiatives focus on healthcare, education, and environmental sustainability, aiming to improve the quality of life for those in the regions where ITI operates.
