KLA, a global semiconductor equipment and services company, has announced that the Science Targets Initiative (SBTi) has certified its short-term greenhouse gas reduction programs. The new releases include 3 categories, created by customers who use their products. By 2022, KLA will commit to reducing Tier 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 on a 2021 schedule, and commit to 100% renewable energy throughout the year.
The company also set a target of 3 emissions reductions. Tier 3 emissions account for more than 98 percent of KLA’s greenhouse gas footprint, with the use of purchased products accounting for nearly three-quarters of these emissions. The new target for Scope 3 is a 52 percent reduction in emissions per billion transistors inspected, measured or processed by KLA products at customer production sites by 2030, with 2021 as the starting point. .
This goal was established through functional modeling and product plans. Ahmad Khan, Head of Semiconductor Processing, Electronics, Packaging and Components at KLA, emphasized the importance of customer collaboration in setting these goals and praised SBT’s approval as a sign of the business.
