Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) published its second Business Responsibility & Sustainability Report (BRSR) for FY 2023-24, focusing on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in line with SEBI's BRSR requirements.
The company posted a turnover of ?6,862 crores with a net worth of ?5,143 crores. It employs 443 permanent staff, 11.7% of whom are female. The company is expanding clean energy efforts, like setting up a 1,000-ton-per-day Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant in Mumbai and reducing water use by 10%. MGL resolved 97% of 35,012 customer complaints, reinforcing its commitment to customer satisfaction and sustainability.
MGL is committed to achieving sustainability goals, with a focus on energy efficiency, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and promoting the use of clean energy such as natural gas. A noteworthy initiative is the plan to set up a Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant in Mumbai, which will process 1,000 tons per day of organic waste, contributing to the reduction of methane emissions and supporting the government’s SATAT scheme for sustainable transportation.
MGL also aims to reduce its water consumption by 10% by FY 2024-25, install rainwater harvesting systems, and obtain green certifications for 50% of its offices and facilities by FY 2025-26. The company has initiated partnerships and acquisitions to expand its geographical footprint in Maharashtra and Karnataka, enhancing access to natural gas for more regions.
Furthermore, MGL's robust grievance redressal system, in compliance with regulatory frameworks, ensures timely resolution of customer and stakeholder concerns. In the previous year, over 35,000 customer complaints were lodged, with a resolution rate of 97%, reinforcing MGL's commitment to customer satisfaction.
