Marriott Highlights Climate Action Achievements in Latest ESG Report

New York – Marriott International has issued its 2024 Serve 360 Report, which outlines the company’s ongoing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) efforts and progress toward its goals related to 2025 Sustainability and Social Impact. The annual report serves as a testament to the company staying true to its commitments on ethical operations while positively enriching the communities it services worldwide.

Climate Action Initiatives:

Marriott’s report had a strong orientation in climate action and is on record for a number of noteworthy accomplishments within the 2023 calendar year:

1) Science-Based Targets: Marriott had its near- and long-term emission-reduction targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative, SBTi, as consistent with the well-understood science of climate change at that time.
2) Climate Action Programme: A climate action program was launched worldwide at the company’s properties, aiming to increase staff awareness and establish property-specific carbon reduction targets.
3) EV Charging Infrastructure: Marriott expanded its electric vehicle charging infrastructure to more than 7,100 chargers across 1,800 properties around the world.

Social Impact and Community Empowerment:

The social impact at Marriott is one of the intrinsic elements of its ESG strategy. The achievements at the heart of empowering communities and realizing social impact have been captured in the 2024 Serve 360 Report; the most highlight were those listed below.

1. Volunteerism: More than 3.1 million hours of volunteerism were rendered globally in 2023 by Marriott associates, pushing the total beyond 12.1 million hours since 2016.
2. Disaster Relief: Over $5.5 million realized in disaster relief efforts as a result of the Maui wildfires.
3) Refugee Employment: Marriott committed to hiring over 3,000 refugees across the globe by 2026 and provided meaningful work to the displaced.
4) Human Trafficking Awareness: Marriott had trained over 1.2 million associates in human trafficking awareness since 2016 on how to fight this issue.
5) In Child Abuse: Marriott launched an industry-leading initiative through which it would prohibit sexual abuse content of a child on the guest networks in the United States of America and Canada focused on conquering its exploitation.

Diversity and Inclusion Efforts:

Marriott demonstrated its commitment to diversity and inclusion through proactive initiatives taken to make the work and community environment inclusive. It has persisted with policies and practices geared toward promoting fairness and improving the status of disadvantaged groups.

Human Rights Advancement:

Marriott continues to advance human rights both in its operations and within its supply line. This sustains a high degree of human rights training programs along with other joint activities aimed at sustaining human rights and avoiding exploitation.
