Meta, Zelestra Expand U.S. Solar Portfolio With New Deals

Meta and Zelestra have deepened their partnership in the renewable energy sector by signing four new Environmental Attribute Purchase Agreements (EAPAs) in Texas. These agreements, which will enable the construction of 720 MWdc of solar projects across Hopkins, Lamar, Lampasas, and Henderson counties, mark a significant step for both companies in their commitment to clean energy expansion. The new solar projects will supply electricity to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) grid, contributing to Meta's objective of powering its data centers entirely with renewable energy.

Meta continues to further its strategy to ensure its electricity usage correlates with renewable energy sources. By signing these agreements, the tech giant cements its place among the corporate leaders in renewable energy purchasing. New solar installations will add significantly to Meta's renewable energy portfolio, which provides critical support to its operations and environmental objectives at its data centers.

A deal that fits this big bill for Zelestra, it gives the company a chance to extend its U.S. renewable energy footprint and further its ambition to double its contracted clean energy portfolio in the next two years. With over 1 GWdc of projects now backed by agreements with Meta, Zelestra is making a strong impression on the U.S. solar market. Since April 2024, Meta and Zelestra have sealed six EAPAs, with a total capacity of 800 MWac. The agreements include two deals for 210 MWac of solar projects in Indiana, further cementing their commitment to fighting decarbonization.

The renewable energy generated will play a significant role in supporting the data center operations of Meta while working towards the overarching goal of 100% clean and renewable energy sourcing for the company. According to Urvi Parekh, head of global energy at Meta, these developments are important and directly align with the company's sustainability ambitions. She said that the electricity from these solar projects would support Meta's ongoing efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and transition to clean energy sources.

Phillip North, CEO of Zelestra US, was also excited about the expanded partnership, emphasizing that the collaboration is a shared commitment to accelerating decarbonization. North pointed out that the agreements are a testament to Zelestra's strategic growth in the renewable energy sector and its dedication to providing sustainable solutions for corporate partners like Meta.

Going forward, Zelestra aims to expand its renewable energy portfolio in the United States further, with nearly 6.6 GWdc in projects currently under development across multiple states. The aggressive growth strategy pursued by the company undoubtedly positions it as a major contributor toward the long-term transition toward a cleaner and more sustainable energy landscape in the United States.

A notable example of a partnership that propels meaningful steps toward renewable energy in the world is the one formed between Meta and Zelestra. Through their efforts in sustainable operations and search for innovations that will get them closer to achieving clean energy goals, renewable energy providers have to collaborate more with companies such as Meta so as to continue the greener course. The agreements thus expand Meta's solar portfolio while strengthening its environmental leadership and calling attention to large-scale investments in renewable energy for the fight against climate change and fossil fuel use.

As demand for clean energy is growing by the day, Zelestra's ongoing projects and strategic partnerships will play a key role in solving this demand and helping the broader transition to a sustainable energy system. Both Meta and Zelestra are committed to their jobs and the environment; these new agreements go a step forward in the journey to a cleaner and greener future.
