Prime Minister Narendra Modi has started the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, which was started by Shri Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma, Minister of State for Steel and Heavy Industries, as a crucial step towards environmental conservation. Translating to “One Tree in the Name of Mother,” this campaign seeks to encourage planting trees as a means of reducing pollution, halting climate change, and improving the environment.
The “Ek Ped Ma Ke Naam” campaign is about people planting a tree to remember a mother who nurtured and protected us. Launched by GAIA Symphony, the campaign is designed to create a connection between people and the safety of our environment. The fulfillment of responsibility toward the environment, as even small seemingly negligible operation can amount in scavenging environmental deterioration. The Minister highighted the simple yet profound aim of the campaign that every person can contribute to a better environment by planting a tree. The Minister insisted on people’s involvement in this program and along with that, he requested citizens to share experience of tree planting on social media. Stressing the point, he said the campaign was being built with the combined efforts of all citizens and there were hopes that it could become a massive social movement. ‘We should strive to protect the environment in the context of the ‘One Tree in the Name of the Mother’ and ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaigns. We all must help the environment together,” he added.
To encourage the campaign, Srinivasa Varma Bhupathiraju planted a sapling. The idea is not to plant more or less, but to actually grow trees. This initiative is a small glimpse of our broader effort.
