Mrs Bectors Food Specialities (MBFSL) has released its Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report (BRSR) for the financial year 2023-24, showcasing key milestones in their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) efforts. The company made significant progress in ensuring sustainable business practices, waste management, food safety, employee welfare, and stakeholder engagement. Some of the highlights include enhanced recycling practices, commitment to food safety standards, robust employee health and safety initiatives, and maintaining a high level of transparency in corporate governance.
In terms of sustainable sourcing, MBFSL has implemented procedures to source materials responsibly, using UTZ-certified cocoa and RSPO-certified palm oil in its products. The company also removed plastic trays from its packaging to reduce waste, achieving 100% recyclable packaging across its product portfolio. With its commitment to the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016, MBFSL is registered with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and is meeting all its waste management targets. In the past year, 31% of MBFSL’s turnover was from exports, reflecting a strong international presence.
On the employee front, MBFSL continued to prioritize the health and safety of its 1300+ employees and over 5500 workers. They implemented robust occupational health management systems, aligned with ISO 45001 standards, at all manufacturing sites. Through continuous training and safety audits, the company aims to achieve zero work-related injuries. MBFSL also focused on diversity, with women making up a portion of the workforce, although more initiatives are needed to enhance gender diversity in management roles.
The company's strong governance framework is guided by transparency and integrity. With no reported cases of bribery or corruption, MBFSL maintains a zero-tolerance policy on ethical violations, ensuring compliance through regular audits and strong oversight. The company’s corporate governance structure and the management of its subsidiaries ensure adherence to national and international standards, further reinforcing its commitment to sustainability.
MBFSL’s focus on community engagement and corporate social responsibility (CSR) saw it implementing several initiatives to improve socio-economic conditions in areas where it operates. Through targeted CSR programs, MBFSL invested in local communities and worked to uplift vulnerable and marginalized groups. This engagement, along with investor relations and stakeholder consultations, remains at the core of the company’s business strategy.
As part of its long-term sustainability vision, MBFSL plans to introduce more sustainable agricultural practices and increase the use of ethically sourced ingredients. The company is also exploring renewable energy options and aims to reduce its reliance on non-renewable energy sources, such as diesel and gas. Through these efforts, MBFSL is making progress toward aligning with India’s broader emission reduction goals and global sustainability standards.
In summary, the 2023-24 BRSR reflects MBFSL’s commitment to integrating ESG principles across its operations, maintaining a focus on ethical governance, environmental responsibility, employee welfare, and community engagement.
