MSCI Appoints Richard Mattison As Head Of ESG And Climate

ESG and Climate Head Appointed by MSCI
Research and data leader for investment, MSCI, announced the appointment of Dr. Richard Mattison as the new head for ESG and Climate. Mattison will lead the company's product development and strategic initiatives in the ESG and Climate sectors and further MSCI's commitment to investors who focus on sustainability.
Sustainable1 is the sustainability division of S&P Global, and it is led by Dr Mattison. Prior to this, he was the CEO of Trucost, a leading company in carbon and environmental data and risk analysis acquired by S&P Global in 2016. He has extensive experience in sustainable finance as part of the EU's High-Level Expert Group on Sustainable Finance and People's Bank of China's Green Finance Taskforce. This, in itself, is also an asset: he presently works as the Senior Advisor to Taskforce for Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) proving his strength in the arena of environment finance.
Alvise Munari, Chief Product Officer at MSCI said the following regarding Mattison: "We are thrilled to welcome Richard to MSCI as the leader of our ESG and Climate business. His proven track record in sustainable finance and commitment to advancing climate solutions will drive our ESG and Climate initiatives forward, helping investors meet their sustainability and climate objectives.".
Mattison will be based in London and will report directly to Munari as he closely works with other key leaders of MSCI to develop its ESG and Climate product portfolio focusing on innovation and scalability. His work will attempt to expand MSCI's capability to provide data, analytics, and insights more effectively for asset managers, asset owners, and banks as the emphasis on sustainability is growing. Mattison will lead the development of next-generation solutions to meet the shifting investment needs of investors in this rapidly changing global investment environment.
I'm excited about joining MSCI at this key inflection point in the firm's history and evolution," says Mattison. "Issues around sustainability and climate change are shifting the landscape for global investing. MSCI is renowned for delivering high-quality data and ratings, advanced analytics, and client-led solutions. I'm excited by the opportunity to advance new-generation innovative tools and insights toward better client service.
Together with Mattison, MSCI is reinforcing its position as one of the key players in sustainable investment, the result of growing demand for ESG and climate-focused financial solutions. As the pace of the global shift to sustainable finance accelerates, MSCI's leadership intends to arm investors with what they need to make intelligent, climate-conscious decisions.".
