Mumbai Seminar Focuses on Sustainable Practices

The IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IMC) on Thursday organized a seminar titled ‘Making Future Ready Mumbai – The Sustainable Way’. The event covered rainwater harvesting, urban forestry, wastewater recycling, rural sustainability, personal carbon footprint, media and sustainability, plastic use and disaster planning. Notable speakers included activist Bittu Sahgal, water conservation advocate Rajesh Choudhary and Prerana Langa of the Aga Khan Habitat Authority. Rajesh Choudhary discussed rooftop water harvesting and grey water recycling in urban areas. Neelakantan Aiyar of NGO Keshavsrushti focused on converting organic waste into compost. Dhanpal Jhaveri, of Everstone Group, presented a waste-to-energy plant that can process 5,600 tonnes of waste. At a media initiative workshop, Partha Sinha of Bennett Coleman and Co spoke about the relationship between economics and ecology. The workshop was part of IMC’s goal to promote sustainability and reduce carbon emissions.
