New Year’s Day Weather Alert: 120 km/h Winds and Heavy Rain Expected Across Wales

This New Year’s Eve should be much better spent indoors since gale-force gusts might reach 120 km/h or 75 mph, potentially bringing widespread disruption across the entire Wales for New Year’s Day, as indicated by forecasters.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for “very strong winds” on Wednesday in addition to a different one for heavy rain, BBC news reported.

It continued to add that it was reasonable to expect 40 mm (1.6 in) on average and up to 80 mm (3.2 in) on the hills.

Areas steep and coastal are likely to see gusts of up to 65 mph (106 km/h). However, it is not expected that inland areas will run faster than 60 mph (100 km/h).

A rain warning will be in place from Tuesday at 8:00 GMT.

Rainfall is forecast for Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Gwynedd, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouthshire, Neath Port Talbot, Newport, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Swansea, Torfaen, and Wrexham from 8:00 GMT on Tuesday until 18:00 on Wednesday.

All areas of Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Gwynedd, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouthshire, Neath Port Talbot, Newport, Pembrokeshire, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Swansea, Torfaen, and Vale of Glamorgan are under a wind warning from 07:00 on Wednesday to the end of the day.
