Nitin Gadkari Inaugurates Oxygen Bird Park in Nagpur

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, inaugurated the Oxygen Bird Park, also known as Amrit Mahotsav Park, along the Nagpur-Hyderabad National Highway-44 in Nagpur, Maharashtra. This eco-friendly initiative, developed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), covers 8.23 hectares, with 2.5 hectares dedicated to social forestry. The park is designed as both a natural bird habitat and a recreational space for residents and tourists. The project, approved in March 2023, was completed with a development cost of ₹14.31 crores.

The idea for the park stemmed from a suggestion by Nitin Gadkari to NHAI’s Regional Office in Nagpur to utilize land along the highway for a green space where visitors could observe various bird species and enjoy recreational activities. Located near the Jamta International Cricket Stadium, the park is part of a larger project to build an exclusive four-lane ring road around Nagpur. In terms of nature, the park is home to a number of different sites that focus on the conservation and promotion of biodiversity.

These include a dedicated area for rare and endangered trees such as Indian bay and yellow flame in the forest, as well as lotus ponds and lotus terraces that provide habitat for waterfowl. Straw grass is a haven for migratory birds, bamboo canes and Indian bamboo species help reduce dust, noise and emissions from vehicles. This park also has palm plantations and large green spaces designed to attract birds and improve air quality. In addition to the natural features, the park has many facilities for visitors, including a food court, restrooms, walking, walking and biking trails, and a theater for performances. . The high towers offer panoramic views of the park, and the children’s play areas are a family-friendly environment. This park has a watering hole and landscaping that adds to its look. Solar panels power many of the park’s installations, reinforcing a commitment to sustainability. Designed to model natural ecosystems, the park aims to preserve local and migratory bird populations and provide a peaceful place for people to enjoy environment.

It stands as a symbol of environmental sustainability and biodiversity conservation, combining environmental awareness and recreational opportunities for the community. The opening ceremony was held with a number of officials, including representatives of the local parliament and representatives of the House of Representatives and senior officials of the Ministry of Health, Education and Health Education.
