NORD IE5+ Motors Set New Standard In Sustainability

NORD DRIVESYSTEMS is offering IE5+ synchronous motors, thus creating a benchmark for a more sustainable production solution within industry. Because the product line has simultaneously optimized for both energy- and material-related efficiency of its new PMSM series. Its efficiency exceeds 95% at speed or even at load compared to 90% when IE5 efficiency class provides its utmost efficiency.

According to Jörg Niermann, Marketing Manager at NORD DRIVESYSTEMS, IE5+ motors represent more than just energy efficiency. With them, an enormous impact can be created in the environmental field regarding CO2 savings, particularly in the area of intralogistics with high efficiencies. They are the holistic approach of sustainability because they take both energy consumption and material conservation into account, according to Niermann.

The IE5+ motors are material-efficient designs. The IPM construction reduces the amount of use of steel and magnet content. The new structure of the design also has features of single-tooth windings that avoid copper losses, using it only when it provides maximum benefit to the system. This allows for a reduction in materials used while ensuring that its performance is optimized, and thus, the manufacturing becomes more environmentally friendly. As Niermann said, this sustainable concept is now transferred to the DuoDrive system, in which it integrates the IE5+ motor with a helical gear unit that has been known to decrease the use of materials as its components are now combined.
