National Storage Affiliates Trust (NYSE: NSA ) is partnering with Solar Landscape to install in the new shared roof. solar power throughout their homes across the country. The partnership intends to develop at least 100 megawatts of solar power using approximately 8.5 million square meters of surface area. Solar Landscape has been awarded exclusive rights to review nearly 1,000 NSA properties in 42 states and Puerto Rico for potential community solar projects. NSA’s rooftop solar installations provide electricity to nearby homes and businesses at a cost through a community solar model. These projects aim to provide environmental benefits, reduce energy costs and increase efficiency by generating clean energy close to the point of use. Development of the initial sites has already started. NSA will not incur any capital expenditure for these projects. Solar Landscape will handle the development, ownership, and operation of the solar installations, while making monthly lease payments to NSA. David Cramer, NSA’s President and CEO, stated, “This partnership supports our corporate responsibility goals and reinforces our commitment to sustainability.
It allows us to provide clean energy at a discount to surrounding communities and create value for NSA shareholders.” Solar Landscape CEO and Co-Founder Shaun Keegan added, “Community solar reduces carbon footprints, offers discounted clean energy, and generates revenue for property owners.” Solar Landscape also promotes solar career opportunities in disadvantaged communities through its STEP-UP (Solar Training and Education Partnerships for Underserved Populations) program, which has trained over 2,500 individuals nationwide. Recently, Solar Landscape partnered with the Hispanic American Construction Industry Association in Chicago to provide hands-on training to community members. NSA’s solar energy projects support the continued success of the STEP-UP program. The collaboration between NSA and Solar Landscape will begin in 2022.
