Renewable energy firm Ohms Energy has installed a corrosion-resistant solar plant at Scottish Chemical Industries’ factory in Taloja, Maharashtra. It is the first-of-its-kind 300 kWp solar plant designed to thrive in highly corrosive conditions.
This innovative project paves the way for renewable energy adoption in challenging industrial environments, reducing costs and significantly cutting carbon emissions for the specialty chemicals leader.
“This project showcases our ability to solve tough industrial challenges with innovative and sustainable energy solutions. It opens new doors for industries dealing with unique environmental conditions,” said Anuraag Gupta, Director of Ohms Energy.
Faced with the corrosive effects of chlorine gas—a key raw material at Scottish Chemical’s factory—traditional solar solutions fell short. Global solar companies could not offer durable solutions with standard warranties for such conditions. Ohms Energy stepped in, teaming up with Spark Solar to design custom corrosion-resistant solar panels and frames, ensuring reliability and performance even in extreme environments.
Ohms Energy delivered the project in phases to ensure effectiveness and longevity. The team first identified challenges and developed a tailored approach. They installed a solar test plant for over a year to refine the solution before deploying a full-scale 300 kWp solar plant featuring innovative materials and structures built to withstand the factory’s corrosive setting.
This cutting-edge solar plant not only secures Scottish Chemical’s energy needs but also delivers measurable benefits, including annual cost savings exceeding Rs 38 lakh and a reduction of approximately 325.76 metric tons of CO2 emissions each year. The project aligns seamlessly with Scottish Chemical’s sustainability goals of lowering its carbon footprint and transitioning to renewable energy for long-term growth.
“This initiative demonstrates our commitment to sustainability and serves as a model for industries like ours to adopt renewable energy solutions effectively,” said Rishab Khandelwal, Director of Scottish Chemicals.
Building on this success, Ohms Energy is already exploring future projects with Scottish Chemical Industries and other potential clients in the industrial sector.
