Sustainability management solutions provider Optera has launched an enhanced version of its Supply Chain Manager with innovations designed to help companies meet demanding Scope 3 reporting. Demand has risen following the implementation of new regulations, such as the European Union’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and California’s Climate Corporate Data Accountability Act. This increased demand is related to transparency and audibility on emissions from purchased goods and services in supply chains. Optera has made a further development of an upgraded platform.
The Supply Chain Manager has been updated with the use of an expansive database of emissions disclosures by over 10,000 suppliers. This great resource helps companies develop a foundational base for understanding and controlling their Scope 3 carbon footprint. We are not providing a tool; we are enabling a transformative approach to sustainability,” said Optera’s CEO and cofounder, Tim Weiss. “Improved granularity in the supplier data and clear calculation make the platform the effective way to drive climate action in supply chains,” he continued.
New features on the redesigned platform include facility-level and business unit emissions data, higher transparency about emissions calculations and sources, and mapping of emissions factors to provide traceability for both the sustainability teams and auditors. Automated reporting has also been included in this redesign for smoother and faster submissions according to the best reporting frameworks. Also, an enhanced user interface that supports the collaboration of cross-functional teams provides a better user experience and performance of the platform.
Optera recently highlighted how crucial these updates are in a recent survey. While 70% of respondents are working with their value chains to advance supplier decarbonization, 73% have set science-based targets. More than 90% of companies are actively reporting emissions either publicly or in response to regulatory imperatives. According to Weiss, these numbers underscore the role of Supply Chain Manager in today’s sustainability efforts through providing critical data and collaboration tools that help companies meaningfully work toward reducing emissions in their entire value chains.
