Paytm Launches India’s First Solar Soundbox for Merchants

Paytm, a payments and financial services leader, has launched the 'Paytm Solar Soundbox,' India's first solar soundbox for merchants. The innovative soundbox provides continuous payment confirmations through solar power, which is an affordable and eco-friendly option for small businesses, especially in rural and remote locations. The new product is part of the company's initiatives to encourage digital payments, financial inclusion, and adoption of green energy.

The Paytm Solar Soundbox is designed to work efficiently in minimal sunlight, producing full-day power after 2-3 hours of charging. It consists of two batteries: one charged using solar energy and the other from electricity, which provides prolonged usage even under low light. The electricity-charged battery runs for up to 10 days without recharge, reducing reliance on frequent charging and decreasing merchants' electricity bills.

It features Paytm's signature QR code, enabling customers to scan and make instant payments via UPI and RuPay credit cards on UPI. It also enables linking of bank accounts and generation of UPI handle for easy transactions. The soundbox offers good-quality audio payment confirmations through a 3-watt speaker so that merchants can hear notifications clearly even in a crowded market environment. Supporting audio notifications in 11 languages, it caters to a multipurpose user base in India.

The new Paytm device is targeted towards small merchants, including street vendors, hawkers, artisans, flower sellers, and other micro-entrepreneurs who utilize digital payments for recurring transactions. The 4G-supported soundbox provides rapid connectivity and enhances the convenience of taking payments without interruptions.

By launching this solar-powered payment product, Paytm expects to spur digital payments in areas where electricity is scarce and contribute to India's shift towards cleaner energy. The initiative will see financial inclusion be encouraged through the empowerment of small businesses to join the digital economy without worrying about power cuts or additional charges.
