Pick’n’Treat Mobile App Launched to Combat Food Waste and Hunger in India

The Pick’n’Treat mobile application has been launched by New Delhi-headquartered Urban Pulse Innovations Pvt. Ltd. as an innovative solution to the twin challenges of food waste and hunger in India. Co-founded by Tanuj and Pradeep Varshney, the company proposes to redirect surplus food from restaurants, cafes, and households to those who need it, forming a practical avenue to food insecurity and how it can be approached sustainably.

Pick’n’Treat uses a platform that serves the purpose of tackling food waste and alleviating hunger. It allows businesses like restaurants and cafes to sell leftover food at discounted prices while still providing a user with quality food at discounted prices. The application also extends an option for users to make donations while at home by disposing of excess food, where partnered NGOs collect and distribute the same to vulnerable communities.

The application further enlightens users on sustainable food culture and promotes the intake of “imperfect” produce—the blemished or misshapen fruits and vegetables that hold the same nutritional value. By targeting customers at the individual and business levels, Pick’n’Treat has in its plan to reduce an estimated 68 million metric tons of annual food waste in India and address hunger among nearly 197 million citizens facing food insecurity.

Urban Pulse Innovations will continue to increase its user coverage across the major cities in India by partnering with more restaurants, cafes, NGOs, and individual users. This activity falls under the general aim of creating awareness of the environmental impact of food waste, including methane emissions that occur from it and creating sustainable consumption behavior.

Conclusion
With the launch of Pick nTreat, Urban Pulse Innovations invites Indians to join the movement to reduce food waste, feed the hungry, and protect the environment. A solution that turns food into a resource, this application aspires to give India a sustainable future that aligns with national and global sustainability goals.
