The Cabinet of Rajasthan, under Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, has passed a spate of crucial initiatives in the energy sector. The main among them is the formation of four joint-venture companies that will take up renewable and thermal power generation and transmission projects in the state. The Cabinet has also cleared the proposed metro rail projects in the state.
It was learnt through an official statement by Deputy Chief Minister Premchand Bairwa, Industry and Commerce Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel. Bairwa pointed out that there would be a joint venture company between the Centre and the State for developing, operating, and implementing existing and all future metro rail projects under the Metro Rail Policy 2017. This would also get centre’s financial assistance and technical support.
Patel said the Cabinet reiterated its commitment towards making Rajasthan self-reliant in energy. The Cabinet approved the formation of joint venture companies with central public sector enterprises, following the MoU signed on March 10, 2024. State government companies will be having 26 per cent share, while central government undertakings will have 74 per cent.
Two JVs would be formed with Coal India Limited and Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited for thermal and renewable energy projects. Yet another JV between NTPC Green Energy Ltd and RVUNL would result in the development of renewable energy projects, including solar, wind and hybrid energy, with a capacity of 25,000 MW and an investment of Rs 1 lakh crore.
Cabinet has also approved formation of Infrastructure Investment Trust InvIT for the state transmission corporation. Rajasthan Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited shall form and register ‘InvIT’ with SEBI to monetize its operational transmission assets.
