SÜDPACK, a German manufacturer of high-performance films, is getting ready to showcase the latest in green packaging solutions at FACHPACK 2024, which will take place in Nuremberg. The new line of innovative, recyclable, and material-efficient Pure-Line products will be the main feature of the company at Hall 4, Booth 220. The focal point of the company’s exhibit, with a focal point on the company’s commitment to sustainability, is to offer a look at some of the packaging alternatives available that reduce impact on the environment yet maintain performance.
SÜDPACK focuses on recyclable single-material films made of polypropylene and polyethylene. The firm indicated that these films can replace traditional packaging solutions by more versatile products with a lower carbon footprint. The company has just launched a new PP packaging concept for coffee that could replace PET/aluminium composites in the long run. This innovation solution combines higher material efficiency with lower density, while at the same time allowing for very good barrier properties and easier processability. This new concept reduces the carbon footprint of coffee packaging by over 30%, according to the own lifecycle assessments of SÜDPACK.
The second innovation is the Multi-Peel PET floatable solution—to further promote the recyclability of PET trays. This low density will enable this solution to be separated from PET trays in a recycling process and provide a cleaner and purified stream for the recycled material. Also, SÜDPACK will present its Multifol Extreme film: a 30% thinner than usual high-performance flexible film against classic PA/PE structures. This film is especially suitable for the packaging of greasy and protein-rich products, as well as frozen foods. It has exceptionally good sealing properties, even in the presence of oil or fat, and is puncture-resistant.
SÜDPACK makes its recyclable monomaterials with stand-up pouches in PP and PE available to the snack and spice industry. These pouches are a sustainable alternative to conventional films, offering a possible fitting of spouts for liquid and pasty products such as fruit purees. In this context, for the manufacture of spouted pouches, SÜDPACK has cooperated with SN Maschinenbau and MENSHEN in order to provide customers with a complete solution and further enhance its range of sustainable packaging.
Apart from product innovation, SÜDPACK has developed an LCA tool called EcoTrace, launched in 2023, for calculating the environmental impact of its packaging solutions. This tool calculates the full life cycle of all products from SÜDPACK, emphasizing such indicators as CO2 emissions, fossil resource use, and environmental and human toxicity. Some of the products from the company have ISO 14040/44 certification for lifecycle assessments in some of its products, including Flow Pack PurePP films—this shows the company’s responsibility toward sustainability. The Flow Pack PurePP films are flexible composites belonging to the Pure-Line portfolio. These have a recyclability rate of 92%, confirmed by cyclos-HTP’s institute.
SÜDPACK at FACHPACK 2024: engagement in sustainable packaging solutions, increasingly necessary for modern business looking to minimize their ecological footprint. Innovations presented during the fair represent the company’s ability to deliver effective packaging that is efficient but respectful of the environment.
