RWE has signed long-term power purchase agreements (PPA) with Meta to deliver renewable energy to the business, including data centers and offices. The contracts include energy from two solar farms under construction in the US: the 274 megawatt (MWac) County Run Solar project in Illinois and the 100 MW Lafitte Solar project in Louisiana. Both projects will be completed by the end of 2025.
Meta aims to achieve zero emissions throughout its value chain by 2030 and has already achieved its goal of obtain 100% of its operating power needs from renewable sources by 2020. By 2025, Meta expects to deliver 9.8 gigawatts of renewable energy to the US grid through projects it supports. Germany-based RWE has already raised $2 billion through its first US green bond issuance to finance renewable energy projects. The new solar projects in Illinois and Louisiana will add to the 9.3 GW of renewable energy capacity in the US, which includes wind, solar and battery projects. The company plans to invest €55 billion worldwide in renewable energy, batteries, renewables and hydrogen projects by 2030, with around €20 billion earmarked for the US..
