Shinkong Invests $10M in Ambercycle’s Circular Textile Plant

Shinkong Synthetic Fibers Corporation, a Taiwanese polyester manufacturer, has invested $10 million in Ambercycle, a Los Angeles-based materials science company focused on circularity. The investment will support Ambercycle’s first commercial plant, which is set to open in 2026 and will produce premium materials from end-of-life textiles. Founded in 2015, Ambercycle specializes in recycling end-of-life fabrics by shredding them, separating their base materials, removing dyes and finishes, and reselling the materials to manufacturers.

The company produces a product called “cycora,” a purified, regenerated PET reconstituted into virgin-grade pellets for low-carbon, circular polyester production. Shinkong and Ambercycle have been collaborating for several years to jointly manufacture regenerated yarns. Shay Sethi, founder and CEO of Ambercycle, highlighted the importance of investing in innovation to meet customer needs. Eric Wu, president of Shinkong Synthetics, emphasized the strategic importance of the investment to promote the development of decarbonized polyester, which is expected to meet the global demand of seven million tons per year in year 2026. Shinkong has invested in recycling. Bio-based fibers and polyesters are part of an effort to reduce dependence on oil and carbon emissions..
