SJVN Expands in Maharashtra with New Projects

Recently, SJVN Limited, a state-owned company, has inked two major MoUs with the Maharashtra government to develop the state’s renewable energy infrastructure. The two MoUs estimate around ₹48,000 crores of total investment into these projects, which is a significant commitment for sustainable energy development.
The MoUs inked by SJVN for Development of Pumped Storage Projects
The first MoU was a five PSP with a total of 8,100 MW in the Department of Water Resources of Maharashtra. These projects are crucial for the purpose of energy storage and handling as they allow the integration of renewable energy sources into a stable system.

The pumped storage projects details are as listed below:
Kolmondapada: 800 MW

Sidgarh: 1,500 MW

Chornai: 2,000 MW

Baitarni: 1,800 MW

Jalvara: 2,000 MW

This program aims to strengthen the state’s energy supply and ensures that renewable energy resources are used while simultaneously directing attention to reducing carbon footprints in Maharashtra.

Floating Solar Project:
MoU The second MoU is with Maharashtra State Power Generation Company, MAHAGENCO in the Lower Wardha Dam for 505 MW floating solar project. This will be done in a two-phase project, where the first phase shall be of 100 MW. These floating solar devices do not use all such rare land resources for electricity generation; they are very efficient compared to the traditional solar farms.

Employment Scope and Economic Impact
Approximately 8,400 direct and indirect jobs will be created with these joint projects. These shall impact the local economies and enhance job opportunities in the renewable energy sector.

Signing Ceremony
The MoUs were signed in the presence of Devendra Fadnavis, Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister, in Mumbai. This collaboration underlines the commitment of both SJVN and the Maharashtra government towards revamping the state’s energy landscape through innovative and sustainable solutions.
Conclusion
With these agreements, SJVN is well positioned to assume a pivotal role in the transformation of Maharashtra’s energy sector furthering the State’s goals in renewable energy and environmental sustainability. The pumped storage facility proposed in addition to the floating solar project underlines an all-rounded approach to energy management as well as usage of renewable resources.
