Kaohsiung, Taiwan—SAP officially opened its first ESG and AI Research and Innovation Center in Kaohsiung, marking a significant leap forward for sustainable transformation among Taiwanese companies. The new center will focus on accelerating digital transformation and AI-enabled sustainability, enabling local companies to pursue net-zero emissions and comply with international sustainability thresholds.
“Taiwan plays an important role in the global supply chain,” said Chen Zhiwei, SAP Global Vice President, and General Manager for Taiwan. “We will establish a new center to integrate SAP’s advanced technologies with local needs, focusing on sustainable supply chain management and carbon reduction.”
One of the center’s major initiatives is to introduce Taiwan’s first SGS-confirmed greenhouse gas inventory solution, specifically designed for Taiwanese companies. This innovative tool will make the inventory process efficient, accurate, and in tune with the guidelines stipulated by the Ministry of Environment.
Net zero carbon emission is a must for the world, and Kaohsiung City Government will keep supporting enterprisers in this city to reach the goal of net zero through actions such as the Net Zero Academy and the Yawan Smart Technology Innovation Park, said Chen Chi-mai, Mayor of Kaohsiung.
The AI-driven set of tools at the center will reshape ESG reporting and carbon management. This suite of technologies automates ESG reporting with European-standard consistency, data completeness, and quality, reducing manual work by up to 75%, while SAP’s generative AI capabilities estimate carbon emissions and automatically map relevant data, ultimately cutting process time and costs by as much as 80%.
The new SAP center is built on the concept of collaboration. In its effort to fill the gaps in technology and talent for sustainability, it is collaborating with the local government, industry, and academic institutions like the National Cheng Kung University. That could mean a new generation of talent ready to lead Taiwan’s green transformation.
With IDC forecasts stating that corporate spending globally will reach $65 billion by 2027 on ESG and sustainability, the new SAP Kaohsiung ESG and AI Research and Innovation Center will be well-placed to support Taiwanese companies in seizing emerging opportunities wrought by the global green economy.
