Sustainable Tyres for Luxury Cars to Hit Roads

Jaguar Land Rover is in a pioneering partnership with international tire maker Pirelli in the use of FSC-certified natural rubber tires for its all entire luxury vehicles portfolio. That marks JLR as the global first automaker in doing so while significantly underpinning further commitment of the company for responsible sourcing and stewarding the environment.

Sustainable Leadership in Automobile Sector :-

Beginning with the new Range Rover Electric, JLR will fit FSC-certified tyres to all its models, covering over 250,000 tyres per year. The FSC certification guarantees the rubber comes from responsibly managed forests; that’s biodiversity and the lives of local people being measured.

Part of its Reimagine strategy, JLR focuses on supply chain traceability and ethical sourcing. By adopting FSC certified tires into its brand, it ensures that rubber can be traced back to its source besides keeping the highest sustainability criteria in mind. If the rubber in such tyres has to come from ethically and sustainably sourced material, the FSC chain of custody certification has to be absolutely critical.

Super Partnership for a Sustainable Future:-

“A huge step in JLR’s sustainable luxury,” said Andrea Debbane, JLR Sustainability Director. The company, hence, is working with the globally leading sustainable tyre manufacturing company, Pirelli, to redefine luxury in a way that is suitable for both the people and the planet. The partnership with Pirelli fosters responsible forest management and protects the communities involved in the rubber supply chain.

Matteo Battaini, Head of Sustainability & New Mobility, Pirelli: Innovation in materials and product sustainability can no longer be one choice among many. To him, FSC certification means that forests are managed so that biodiversity is safeguarded and, at the same time, there is great economic upturn for the local workers and communities. Therefore, Pirelli is proud to support JLR, the first car maker that uses their FSC-certified tyres, sweeping across a horde of vehicles that form part of their wide-ranging coterie.

Consumer recognition of the FSC logo is on the rise; for instance, a 2023 survey returned results indicating that 77% of UK residents recognize the symbol and prefer FSC-certified products. This growing awareness underscores how pertinent JLR’s commitment to sustainability actually is.

After the first application, JLR and Pirelli, at the moment, are ongoing collaborating for more enhancements. They plan to increase the use of renewable and reclaimable materials on all JLR tires; this is a clear statement of the all-out commitment towards environmental responsibility.

Strengthened Global Sourcing Procedures:-

ESG criteria are now being introduced into the supplier evaluations of JLR, and this will optimize the process of global sourcing. This sets a new, high ESG criterion that JLR is committed to for proselytizing new benchmarks in sustainability and ethical behavior in the premium automobile space.

JLR and Pirelli have done tremendous evidence-based research to make this collaboration happen, bringing the automotive industry closer to a truly sustainable future. The luxury vehicle manufacturing company sources these cars responsibly.
