San Francisco, August 6, 2024 – Uber Technologies, Inc. and BYD Co. Ltd. are forming a historic strategic cooperation to bring 100,000 new BYD electric vehicles onto the Uber platform across major global markets. The program will kick off in Europe and Latin America, providing drivers on the Uber platform with competitive pricing and financing for BYD cars, with expansion plans into the Middle East, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
It will offer low-maintenance, high-performance BYD battery vehicles. This is besides lowering the cost and financing hurdles to adopting an EV for drivers at Uber and moving riders, providing a more eco-friendly way. The deal will include charging, maintenance, insurance, and financing discounts, market-customised.
Looking ahead, Uber and BYD will consider the deployments of autonomous-capable BYD vehicles on the Uber platform to exploit Uber’s commanding mobility and delivery network, giving more people access to autonomous technology.
According to Chuanfu Wang, President and Chairman of BYD, “[t]he partnership between BYD and Uber demonstrates our shared commitment to innovate towards a cleaner, greener world.” Echoing this sentiment, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi explained that “an Uber driver can offer up to four times the emissions benefits compared to the average motorist.”
We are excited to work with Uber to accelerate an EV transition,” said Stella Li, BYD executive vice president and CEO of BYD Americas. That will be a quantum leap toward the electrification of urban mobility worldwide.
