WABAG Bags Rs 700 Crore Order from Zambia to Set Up Waste Water Treatment Plants

VA Tech WABAG bags major order for Zambia wastewater treatment project
Largest water treatment major VA Tech WABAG has won a significant order from Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company (LWSC) for designing and constructing two advanced wastewater treatment plants in Zambia. Estimated at around €78 million or around Rs 700 crore, this is the company’s entry into the African market.

This project is financed by European Investment Bank in Frankfurt, and German Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) Development Bank. Based on this order, VA Tech WABAG has to construct, own and operate two municipal wastewater treatment plants for the capital of Zambia, Lusaka. The capacities are 54 MLD at Ngwerere and 19 MLD at Chunga. There would be two phases of implementing this project. Thus, the EPC will see execution in 36 months. Then comes the phase of operation and maintenance of these plants where sustainable performance and efficiency in execution can be garnered during its run of 24 months. It is indeed because it has remained a thrust area, on account of the fact that as major chunk of both the plants’ energies is to be provided will come from green sources-of one, biogas; of the other, of solar power.

This water shall reach the country of Zambia from the biggest and modernest treatment plants for wastewater within the country. To this end, on their part, the plants will enormously contribute to the infrastructure of water and sanitation within the country that shall lift the water and sanitation in Lusaka to the standard of living conditions to many.

This is an all-round coordination with the proposal that the government has brought forth for further enhancement of water and sanitation infrastructure in Zambia.
