AQI Improves, Temperature Drops to 5.7°C in Delhi
Delhi’s AQI rose to 300, staying in the ‘poor’, but strong winds improved conditions after 24 days of ‘very poor’ air.
Delhi’s air got a little worse on Monday, with the AQI rising to 300. But it still stayed in the ‘poor’ category, slightly higher than Sunday’s level of around 270. On Sunday, Delhi finally got relief from pollution after 24 days of ‘very poor’ air quality. The reason behind was strong north westerly winds which helped clear the pollution a little which brought cleaner skies to Delhi and nearby cities like Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad.
Delhi AQI and Weather Today
In Delhi today around 8:05 am on Monday, city’s overall AQI was 300, which falls in the ‘poor’ category. Out of 38 monitoring stations, 23 still showed ‘very poor’ air quality. The AQI on Sunday was 279 which falls under ‘poor’ category, this is an improvement from 305 ‘very poor’ which was on Saturday. According to the CPCB AQI between 0–50 is Good, 51–100 falls under Satisfactory category, 101–200 is Moderate, 201–300 means the air quality is Poor, between 301–400 is Very Poor and when AQI is between 401–500 then the air is Severe and toxic to breathe.
Areas with highest AQI
There are 10 locations in Delhi with worst AQI on Monday morning. Nehru Nagar had the worst air quality with an AQI of 354. The cleanest air was recorded at NSIT Dwarka, which had an AQI of 202. Other stations with very poor air include Rohini – 343, Bawana – 339, RK Puram – 338, Mundka – 330, Punjabi Bagh – 329, Anand Vihar – 327, Wazirpur – 325, Shadipur – 324 and Jahangirpuri – 321. These locations recorded the worst air quality.
Winds Speed Increases
CPCB data shows that from Saturday afternoon, wind speeds have increased to 10–15 km/hr and didn’t slow down at night. Experts said these steady winds helped blow away the pollution that had been stuck over the city for the last three weeks.
Delhi Temperature Drops
The temperature in Delhi today dropped to 5.7 degrees Celsius which is much colder than usual temperature. Due to which November makes it the coldest temperature of the season and the coldest November morning since last three years. Few days earlier, on November 26, Delhi had already experienced its coldest November morning in three years, with the temperature dropping to 8 degrees Celsius, which was three degrees below normal.
