Temperatures across Delhi-NCR are set to rise sharply from Monday. Heatwave conditions along with warm nights are expected between April 21 and 23.
Weather conditions in Delhi NCR are set to change rapidly once again. While Sunday (April 19) brought slight relief from the heat due to light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds of 30–40 km/h across parts of Delhi, Haryana, and Chandigarh, this respite is expected to be short-lived.
As per the India Meteorological Department, the temperature would begin to rise abruptly starting from Monday, April 20. An increment of around 2-4 degrees Celsius in maximum temperature is possible in northwest India, especially in Delhi-NCR.
The scenario would worsen from April 21 till April 23, as the weather conditions are anticipated to turn into a heat wave coupled with warm nights in the entire NCR zone. Places like Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad would be severely impacted by loo winds.
Another alert has been released by the weather department regarding the heat wave warning. It states that although people will have respite from rains for some time, but this relief will turn into extreme heat very soon.
Heatwave is expected to emerge in Haryana and Chandigarh from April 21 till April 23. This is because the temperatures will stay exceptionally hot during daytime while even at night there won’t be any respite from the heat.
Stay alert: risk of heatstroke
People are being advised to be very careful during the afternoon time. Do not go out during the heat wave times, unless it is very essential, as the continuous exposure to sunlight may increase the chances of getting affected by heat stroke drastically. It is very important to take extra precautions for kids, elderly people, and those who are suffering from health issues.
According to the India Meteorological Department, it is advised to drink lots of water, wear light and loose clothes, and even use head protection like wearing hats or umbrellas to protect oneself from the harmful rays of the sun.
