Delhi-NCR Shivers as Temperature Drops; Air Quality Jump to ‘Severe’ Category
Delhi-NCR faces a sharp drop in temperature and thick fog as air quality jumps to the ‘severe’ category, making it one of the most polluted cities in India.
The temperature in Delhi-NCR is likely to fall even more today, the sky during early mornings and evenings will likely to be covered with thick fog. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), wind is blowing at a speed of about 20 km per hour, will make the weather colder and may bring the minimum temperature down to 13–14°C. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to stay health and warm.
At the same time, air pollution has become worse in many parts of Delhi and pushing Delhi into the list of most polluted city in India once again.
According to the data released by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) on Saturday afternoon was recorded 361, which comes under red zone, meaning the quality of air is harmful to breathe. This placed Delhi in the ‘red zone’ and making it the second most polluted city in India.
Several areas in the national capital recorded extremely high pollution levels. Data from 38 monitoring stations on CPCB’s Sameer App showed AQI readings of 404 in Alipur, 402 at ITO, 406 in Nehru Nagar, 411 in Vivek Vihar, 420 in Wazirpur, and 418 in Burari, all are dangerous for health.
Experts warn that the combination of high pollution levels and cold weather, fog makes air more toxic and heavier. This could worsen health risks, especially to children, old people, and those who already have breathing problems.
