Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami promoted organic farming by ploughing a field at his Khatima residence to encourage sustainable and chemical-free agriculture.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday promoted organic farming by personally engaging in agricultural work at his private residence in Khatima, where he ploughed a field and participated in traditional farming activities.
Chief Minister’s direct involvement involved activities such as tilling the soil and monitoring the cultivation of paddy. The move was seen in a bid to bring into focus the significance of using natural and chemical-free farming techniques in the state of Uttarakhand.
As per the report, Dhami stressed the importance of organic farming not just as a farming practice but as a needful activity that would help maintain soil fertility and improve the quality of the crops produced. Also, Dhami noted that due to the geographical factors in Uttarakhand, it was better suited to adopt natural farming and could help increase farmers’ incomes.
Further, he deliberated on the conventional agricultural practices and stated that linking oneself to nature and adopting conventional cultivation techniques is essential for maintaining the rural culture and building self-sufficient villages. This project also coincides with the priorities of the state government regarding millets, horticulture, and environmentally friendly agricultural diversification.
This initiative forms part of an overall awareness campaign undertaken by the state to promote sustainable agriculture among the farming community. The objective is to enhance soil fertility and improve the overall sustainability of agriculture in the Himalayan region.
