Earth Day activities at Delhi zoo focus on biodiversity awareness and student engagement

Earth Day Observance Highlights Biodiversity Awareness At Delhi Zoo

World Earth Day was observed at the National Zoological Park with activities focused on biodiversity awareness and environmental education, according to the government.

The programme was organised under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and aligned with the global theme “Our Power, Our Planet”. It brought together school students and visitors to take part in activities related to conservation and sustainable practices.

Around 180 school students and more than 1,500 visitors participated in activities at the zoo. These included slogan marches, expert sessions, quizzes, colouring exercises and interactive games focused on biodiversity and environmental protection.

The event began with a student march on environmental messaging, followed by an orientation session on Earth Day and conservation issues. Educational content, including videos on Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) and short films on sustainability, was presented.

Interactive sessions included animal identification exercises, word searches and themed colouring tasks. These activities were conducted to support the understanding of environmental concepts among younger participants.

Participants also took part in an Earth Day pledge related to environmental protection and responsible behaviour. This was followed by an educational visit to the zoo, allowing students to observe wildlife and relate it to conservation topics.

Additional activities included doodle art, quizzes and awareness sessions on environmental themes and Mission LiFE. These activities involved visitors across different age groups.

The event was part of ongoing public outreach and environmental awareness efforts. It focused on the use of activity-based formats to communicate conservation-related information.

The observance concluded with continued emphasis on environmental awareness and biodiversity-related learning.
