Global Brands Unite For Climate Action Through Supplier LOCT
ALDI, Avantor, and McCain Foods join Supplier LOCT to reduce Scope 3 emissions through climate action.

Global Brands Team Up to Address Climate Action via Consortium on Supplier Leadership on Climate Transition
In a powerful demonstration of cross-sector collaboration, global brands ALDI, Avantor, and McCain Foods join the Supplier Leadership on Climate Transition consortium. Guidehouse leads this effort, which seeks to address Scope 3 carbon emissions, or indirect emissions through supply chain activity. It does this by equipping suppliers with tools, training, and strategies needed to deliver science-based reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
Launched in 2021, Supplier LOCT has become a critical platform for climate action, with 25 organizations and nearly 1,000 suppliers on board already. The program includes expert-led workshops on calculating GHG footprints, setting science-based emission targets, and aligning with global climate disclosure standards like the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). The consortium is making steps toward a sustainable future through collaboration and actionable knowledge.
Empowering Suppliers to Drive Change
Suppliers also play a pivotal role in global climate solutions. Britt Harter, partner at Guidehouse, describes empowering suppliers to lead within their own organizations as important. "More and more suppliers realize their importance in being part of the climate solution," she says. "By participating in Supplier LOCT, they become internal experts within their organizations on all the steps needed to make meaningful reductions to carbon emissions.
The program’s impact is significant, as supply chains account for a large share of many companies’ overall GHG footprints. Supplier LOCT’s tailored approach ensures that businesses and their suppliers are equipped with the knowledge and skills to create scalable and impactful solutions.
ALDI’s Commitment to Sustainability
For ALDI, participation in Supplier LOCT is part of its general sustainable efforts. Josiah McClellan, the director of sustainability at ALDI USA, emphasized that collective action must be taken to reach climate targets.
"Accelerating climate action requires collective movement," said McClellan. "ALDI is proud to join Supplier LOCT and collaborate with organizations on a shared mission to act swiftly and scale climate solutions."
As a leading global retailer, ALDI recognizes its responsibility to support suppliers in setting and meeting emissions goals. By leveraging the resources and training provided through Supplier LOCT, ALDI aims to drive impactful change across its extensive supply chain.
Life Sciences Industry Steps Up
Avantor, the first life sciences company to join the consortium, said that the move is part of industry leadership in addressing climate change. Emma Howcroft, Avantor's global sustainability sourcing director, was excited about the growing momentum behind Supplier LOCT.
"We are delighted that so many companies have already come together under the Supplier LOCT consortium to support suppliers in developing effective decarbonization strategies," Howcroft said.
Avantor's presence underlines science-driven industries are at the heart of innovation that will lead to better sustainable practices in the future. Supplier LOCT's membership sets a precedent in the life sciences industry for its peers to adapt to the norm.
Food industry takes on challenge of supply chain emissions
As a global leader in food production, McCain Foods is acutely aware of the environmental impact of its supply chain, which accounts for over 75% of its GHG emissions. Helen Whitehouse, McCain's vice president of global procurement, emphasized the importance of collaboration in achieving decarbonization goals.
Joining Supplier LOCT encourages members to reduce emissions and provides practical knowledge to guide them," said Whitehouse. "Building capabilities is a core part of our climate strategy."
McCain Foods takes decisive action for addressing its supply chain emissions, with the contribution toward a more sustainable food industry through Supplier LOCT.
Building Capabilities for a Sustainable Future
Supplier LOCT's dynamic curriculum allows participants to keep pace with evolving climate standards and regulations. This is done through the provision of updated guidance and resources, equipping suppliers to meet a rapidly changing regulatory landscape while making meaningful progress toward GHG reductions.
In response to the urgency posed by climate change, Nicole DelSasso, director of Supplier LOCT at Guidehouse, underlined that cross-industry collaboration plays a vital role in facing these challenges. "Supplier LOCT underscores the critical role that cross-industry collaboration plays in addressing the urgent challenges posed by climate change," said DelSasso.
A Unifying Effort for Climate Solutions
Uniting brands across industries, Supplier LOCT is pushing a global movement to combat climate change. Science-based, scalable solutions from the consortium are designed to empower suppliers and their partner organizations to take bold action. The initiative is led by companies like ALDI, Avantor, and McCain Foods and is setting a new standard for climate collaboration that will ensure a more sustainable future for generations to come.
