Himachal Pradesh faces mounting desolation as disastrous thunderstorm rains spark landslides, flash cataracts, and downpours, inflicting over ₹ 4,000 crore in damages since June. From June 20 to September 7, the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) has logged 366 deaths — 203 from rain-related disasters and 163 from affiliated road accidents — while 41 remain missing.

Structure Paralysed and Agriculture Hit

Heavy rain has left 6,025 homes and 455 shops or manufactories either completely or incompletely damaged. Landslides and flash cataracts are enhancing, with 135 major landslides and 95 flash cataracts since the launch of the thunderstorm, alongside 45 downpours. Critical road networks have been devastated — 869 roads, including three public roadways, remain shut, segregating entire communities. Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, and Chamba are among the worst affected.

Apple-laden exchanges stranded on the Shimla-Theog road — central to fruit transport — illustrate the far-reaching request impacts. In all, the arrestment of 1,572 power mills and 389 water force schemes has created an acute extremity for introductory services.

Ongoing Deliverance and Flood Risk

Search-and-deliverance operations have been called off in Chamba’s Bharmaur-Manimahesh after 17 pilgrims failed during the yatra. Original authorities continue to appeal for information about missing persons. Downfall pars peaked at 943.2 mm — 46 above normal — as “unheroic” rainfall warnings for continued storms were issued, raising fears of farther slides and transport dislocations.
