Hindustan Power secures a 425MWp solar project from UPPCL as part of a 2,000MWac solar procurement initiative. The project, expected to be commissioned in 24 months, aligns with the company’s goal of achieving a 5GW renewable energy portfolio by 2028.

Hindustan Power Strengthens Renewable Push with 425MWp Solar Project Win

New Delhi, April 3, 2025: Hindustan Power has acquired a 425MWp solar project from Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) on a 2,000MWac grid-connected solar purchase agreement. It was done through a tariff-based competitive e-auction process and is a big step towards the company's target of having a 5GW portfolio of renewable assets by 2028.

Project Details and Execution
Letter of Award (LoA) was granted after a clear e-Reverse Auction process. UPPCL will purchase power from this project on a fixed tariff for 25 years under Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). The solar power plant will feed into the Uttar Pradesh state transmission utility (STU) substation, providing a stable power feed to the grid. Commissioning of the project is to be done within 24 months from the PPA signing date.

This expansion is consistent with Hindustan Power's market leadership in India's renewable energy market. As energy requirements grow and there is more emphasis on clean energy, mega-sized solar projects play an important role in de-fossilizing the country and helping India achieve its renewable energy goals. The project aligns well with Uttar Pradesh's renewable energy policy of raising the contribution of solar power to the state's electricity supply.

Hindustan Power's Vision in Renewable Energy
Hindustan Power has been pursuing solar power projects intensely in India. With a double-fold vision in its renewable energy portfolio, the company is eyeing installed capacity of 5GW by the year 2028. The new UPPCL project forms part of an overall strategy of expanding renewable energy generation and aiding India's transition to a clean energy path.

The firm has already ordered several solar power projects and continues to invest in increasing its capacity. These large-scale projects are extremely important in fulfilling India's renewable energy goals, ensuring energy security, and lowering carbon emissions.

Conclusion
By acquiring the 425MWp solar power plant owned by UPPCL, Hindustan Power has re-committed itself to the construction of renewable power. The power plant will enable Uttar Pradesh to attain the clean energy goal as well as position the company well in attaining the 5GW portfolio goal. Through ongoing investment in solar energy, Hindustan Power is spearheading India's transition to renewable power sources.
