HPCL maintained LPG supplies across India during global supply chain disruptions, serving over 9 crore customers and delivering more than 432 lakh domestic cylinders.
Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) continued LPG distribution across the country between May 1 and June 7, 2026, despite disruptions affecting global LPG supply chains due to developments in the Strait of Hormuz.
As per the firm, a total of 9.13 crore people received services from the company, where the delivery of 432.82 lakh domestic LPG cylinders was completed through a total of 6,229 distributors along with 52,800 employees in delivery.
HPCL said that it has provided LPG to 2.80 crore PMUY beneficiaries, with a total number of 101.07 lakh refill cylinders being delivered to them. According to the company, providing gas cylinders to those who are dependent upon subsidies for their cooking fuel is an important factor.
The strait of Hormuz is one of the major corridors for international energy exports. It has been reported that quite a number of LPG imports by India also pass through this area. Industry analysts have commented that disruption along this route could disrupt the logistics of LPG imports.
In order to ensure smooth functioning of their operations during this time, HPCL was able to coordinate their activities for sourcing, bottling, and transportation of LPG.
According to the data provided by HPCL, apart from the supply of LPG cylinders in India, there were 37.77 lakh commercial cylinders and 8.62 lakh 5 kg FTL cylinders supplied. Additionally, HPCL arranged 1,622 LPG camps with the objective of making LPG available to communities through FTLCs.
Moreover, HPCL carried out 2,283 checks across its distribution chain. These checks were made with the intent of monitoring and avoiding any misuse of LPG cylinders by diverting subsidized LPG cylinders. OTP systems were used by HPCL for monitoring purposes.
The company stated that the consistency in the availability of the fuel was because of coordination within the entire LPG value chain, which included manufacturing plants in India, bottling plants, transportation, and last mile delivery networks. Furthermore, the company added that it was working with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to give priority to household consumption of LPG fuel.
The latest developments are taking place amidst global uncertainties in energy supply chains due to geopolitics and other related issues, making it important to ensure a consistent fuel supply to households and companies.
