IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Karnataka Amid Brewing Cyclone; Potential Impact on Odisha and West Bengal

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Karnataka, including Bengaluru, forecasting adverse weather conditions through May 15, 2025. Residents are advised to prepare for thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and strong winds across the region. This alert is part of a broader weather pattern affecting southern India, with similar warnings issued for neighboring states.

In addition to the immediate weather concerns in Karnataka, the IMD has identified an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the Andaman Sea. This system is expected to develop into a low-pressure area between May 16 and 22, potentially intensifying into Cyclone Shakti between May 23 and 28. Coastal regions of Odisha and West Bengal, as well as parts of Bangladesh, including Khulna and Chattogram, may be affected by this cyclone.
