LEGO Opens Sustainable Factory in Vietnam With Green Tech

The LEGO Group officially opened its sixth global manufacturing facility in Vietnam's Binh Duong region—the most environmentally friendly location in the company's history. The new facility marks an important milestone in LEGO's vision to diversify its production base in the Asia-Pacific region and address increased demand from the growing consumer market across the region.

During the ceremony of grand opening, which was graced by Vietnam's Deputy Prime Minister Mai Văn Chính and former President Nguyen Minh Triet, LEGO leadership reiterated its commitment to Vietnam for the long term, highlighting integration of sustainability, innovation, and regional cooperation.

This cutting-edge location demonstrates our dedication to sustainable growth and innovation," said Niels B. Christiansen, LEGO Group CEO. "We are excited to introduce more LEGO play experiences to children and fans in the Asia-Pacific region while expanding our global production network."

Sustainable in its design, the Vietnam plant is a significant step forward in LEGO's green journey. The plant will be powered completely by renewable energy by the start of 2026. It features 12,400 solar panels installed on rooftops and will be partially powered by a new energy centre built inside the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP). The centre boasts the nation's first large-scale battery storage solution, a technology that not only speaks to LEGO's climate goals but also paves the way for other manufacturers that have operations in Vietnam.

Carsten Rasmussen, LEGO Group Chief Operating Officer, called the factory a benchmark in the environmental journey of LEGO. "I am very proud of our sustainability achievements here in Vietnam," Rasmussen added. "The incorporation of battery storage solutions and renewable energy is a bold move forward—not only for the LEGO Group but for the industrial sector in Vietnam.

Continuing to set the standard as a sustainability innovator, the LEGO Manufacturing Vietnam plant is the company's first to earn LEED Platinum for its administrative and play buildings. Other large buildings in the plant have earned LEED Gold certification. The factory also represents a change in LEGO's packaging habits, being the first to use only paper-based pre-pack bags, aligning with the company's larger mission of removing single-use plastic from its packaging.

Aside from its green aspects, the plant is establishing standards for workers' wellbeing and inclusion. Employees have been prepared by LEGO's in-house training program using a combination of global best practices and local training with the help of more than 100 worldwide trainers. The location is also a model for LEGO's Future Factory Workplace initiative, which prioritizes inclusiveness, employee wellbeing, and innovative design.

The factory boasts well-designed areas such as green workspaces, indoor and outdoor break rooms, playrooms, and wellness-oriented rooms like lactation and prayer rooms. It is also wheelchair accessible throughout, further affirming LEGO's commitment to creating inclusive and supportive environments.

Aside from its production and environmental aspirations, LEGO is also deeply investing in the Vietnamese community through its outreach and educational initiatives. The firm's activities, fueled by its purpose to "inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow," are impacting tens of thousands of children nationwide. In partnership with the National Centre for Special Education, Save the Children International, and the LIFE Centre, LEGO is making play-based learning more accessible. Initiatives like LEGO Braille Bricks, Girls Unstoppable, and Build the Change are already showing impact. By the close of 2025, these projects will benefit more than 60,000 children, developing learning, confidence, and creativity through play.

Adding to its new production base, LEGO is also set to launch a regional distribution center in Dong Nai province later this year. Managed by international logistics specialist Kuehne+Nagel, the center is already receiving early-stage shipments and will be instrumental in enhancing LEGO's supply chain resilience in Asia.

As LEGO continues its expansion in emerging markets, the Binh Duong factory stands as a powerful symbol of how business growth can be aligned with sustainability and community impact. With a focus on renewable energy, innovative design, social responsibility, and long-term regional investment, LEGO Manufacturing Vietnam is not just a production site—it’s a blueprint for responsible, future-ready manufacturing.
