Neste And DB Schenker Lead APAC Clean Transport Trial

Neste and DB Schenker trial renewable diesel in Singapore, cutting up to 90% emissions with no engine changes.

Neste And DB Schenker Lead APAC Clean Transport Trial

In a milestone move to decarbonize Asia-Pacific's road transport, Neste and logistics services leader DB Schenker have completed a trailblazing test of Neste MY Renewable Diesel™ in Singapore. The program, from December 2024 through February 2025, represents the first application of this renewable diesel to road transport in Singapore and establishes a new milestone for the region in efforts toward net-zero emissions.

The partnership, based on a shared commitment to sustainability, shows the feasibility and real-time effect of making the transition to renewable fuels without the necessity of expensive infrastructure investment or vehicle retrofitting. Neste MY Renewable Diesel is a drop-in product that seamlessly integrates with all diesel engines, providing logistics companies with a scalable, low-hurdle path to lowering greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The land transport industry in Singapore presently accounts for around 15% of the country's overall carbon emissions, emphasizing the need to embrace cleaner alternatives. Neste's renewable diesel offers up to 90% GHG emissions savings over its life cycle against fossil diesel. This high potential for emissions reduction was confirmed during the trial, when DB Schenker ran its current fleet on the renewable fuel without technical interruption or further investment.

This partnership with DB Schenker is the first time that Neste MY Renewable Diesel has been used for road transport in Singapore, and it highlights the key role that this renewable solution can play in DB Schenker's sustainable journey," stated Ee Pin Lee, Head of Commercial APAC, Renewable Products at Neste. "We are dedicated to furthering our partnership in Singapore and elsewhere with DB Schenker, and helping drive a lower-emission logistics industry.

The success of this trial follows the two companies' earlier sustainability initiatives in Europe. In Finland, DB Schenker has already implemented Neste MY Renewable Diesel for its light distribution fleet and also partnered with Neste on a high-power charging service for heavy-duty electric trucks. These projects are part of a wider, multi-pronged effort by both companies to decarbonize their transport operations.

Christoph Matthes, Head of Land Transport APAC and SVP at DB Schenker, highlighted the environmental responsibility of the company: "DB Schenker has a goal of doing business with the smallest ecological footprint possible. We are eager to change our entire industry in collaboration with our customers and partners through the utilisation of renewable diesel as an effective means for decarbonisation of our ground transport operations within the region."

The success of the trial shows that early climate benefits can be achieved without the weight of wholesale infrastructure changes. By doing away with obstacles like vehicle retrofitting or changes to fuel distribution, Neste's renewable diesel offers a pragmatic, go-now solution for businesses wishing to achieve their sustainability goals.

This achievement establishes a new standard for the transportation and logistics industry in the Asia-Pacific. It demonstrates that with the correct partnerships and technology, the shift to lower-emission operations is not only possible but already occurring. As governments throughout APAC ramp up their climate action plans, the partnership between Neste and DB Schenker presents an example of how business innovation can achieve meaningful environmental results on a mass scale.

Both firms look to extend their partnership, seeking opportunities to expand the deployment of renewable diesel to additional fleets and geographies. With increasing pressure to decarbonize the transportation sector, efforts like these give other players in the industry a clear guide on how to make a short-term difference using sustainable transportation solutions.
